I started blogging after being elected as a deputy to General Convention and began writing things to the Houses of Bishops and Deputies listserv, trying to reason and understand the leadership of my church. The rest, as they say, is history.

Why the name? Well, it is a double entrendre:

descant: a melody or counterpoint sung above the plainsong of the tenor; discourse or comment on a theme.

Oh, and the picture on the header is of the war memorial cross at the University of the South, my undergraduate alma mater.

I’m sorry to hear about your website. Hacker’s did not do this. The media has turned “any malicious attack on a computer or network” to the result of a hacker. Hackers do not maliciously circumvent computers or steal personal information.
A definition of a hacker is: “a programmer for whom computing is its own reward; may enjoy the challenge of breaking into other computers but does no harm; “true hackers subscribe to a code of ethics and look down upon crackers”. -Hackers use every situation as a LEARNING experience to progress their knowledge in computers, not to steal things.
I believe the person who attacked your network is a Computer Cracker. The definition of a Computer Cracker is: “a programmer who cracks (gains unauthorized access to) computers, typically to do malicious things; “crackers are often mistakenly called hackers” – These are the people that steal your identity, phish your online banking accounts, delete your servers, deface websites, crack your email accounts, hack your databases full of e-mails to spam, or sell them. They also have a profound lack of correct grammar haha.

I am a hacker, and “lawlessness” is not our trademark. I am very sorry that something like this happened. A good idea is to hire Penetration testers to test the security of your website and/or network. Make sure that they are respectable, professional, and experienced. Hope this helps for the future.

Is there any way the post below can be taken down or I can be untagged from it? Given that it’s no longer newsworthy and this blog does not appear to be active, I wouldn’t mind letting this go away as the #2 Google hit for my name.

i read a posting about chuck colson dated aug 12, 2008, and at the end it had a 45 second u-tube video that was very sexually suggestive of a movie or something called “unzip x” dated nov. 2011. i thought this was not probably a part of the original posting butn that someone may have attached it without your authorization. steve williams
