    Vichy? What are you saying?

  2. 3 Dave Sims September 8, 2007 at 3:49 am

He’s saying that Covenant is like the Vichy government in occupied France. Puppets of the Nazi regime. Collaborators.

Very nice site. However, though I do not share the belief that Williams is a wimp or ACI members are “collaborators”, I do think that priests and bishops should remember that although they see their fellow priests and bishops as other simple individuals that need the saving grace of God like anyone else; a priest is not a person in the pew. A priest or bishop has the collar and credentials of the church. As such they can scandlize and scatter the sheep or teach things that will damn a soul if believed and do it in the name of the church. Rev. Uffman seems to suggest this type of inclusivness in his Prodical Son essay. I hope I am wrong about his conclusions. I believe even Bishop Spong capable of Saving Grace. But, it would be easier and safer if he didn’t have his collar in the mean time. The same is true of Rev. Borg and others.

    Thank you for listening,
    Nette

No, they are not collaborating with Nazi’s but they are collaborating with those who advocate heresy. I suppose to find a way forward “together.” There is no way forward together until and unless those who “run ahead” return and recant. Otherwise, this group seems in open defiance of 2nd John 11-14

Excuse me, that 2nd John 9-11

  6. 7 robroy September 10, 2007 at 5:35 am

    That’s: 2 John 1:9-14.

These are the liberal institutionalists who have allied themselves with the liberal ideologues. The ideologues cannot stop from nominating lesbian bishop candidates and the like. Similar to few hamsters in a crowd of lemmings and will be swept up. For what I know of all of them, they have good hearts but poor friends.

“…they have good hearts but poor friends.”

I heard they even dine with publicans.

  8. 9 Matt kennedy September 10, 2007 at 3:35 pm

yes, and help them do their work

  9. 10 Kevin September 10, 2007 at 9:09 pm

Now Matt, tell us how you REALLY feel?

Matt: You wrote, “they are collaborating with those who advocate heresy.” Really! I think that the new site is among the most thoughtful I have encountered recently and have encouraged many to visit. But while we’re on the topic, if we are to apply your rigorous standard of condemnation to those apparently orthodox folks at the Covenant site, what do we say of an apparently orthodox priest who collects a salary from heretics, whose wife collects a similar salary (perhaps), and who contribute to the Pension Fund that is funding litigation against orthodox Anglicans who had the courage to leave TEC for orthodox oversight?? Matthew 7:4, Matt. Why do you collaborate with a denomination that supports the killing of the unborn? Have the courage of your convictions and stop doing what you are criticizing others for doing. Go with CANA or AMIA, and then criticize the ACI crowd. At least then your critique would be consistent.

  11. 12 Matt Kennedy September 11, 2007 at 8:41 pm

heh, nice try…we have not contributed any money to the diocese or to the pension fund for at least a year now. The bishop of CNY has not preached from this pulpit or celebrated at this altar since 2003 and we have not shared table fellowship with him since that time.

And as for the rest, my parish and I are currently in the process of leaving the Episcopal Church…just negotiating the details with the diocese.

As for Covenant, the site seeks to promote the facade of ecclesial unity between light and darkness. There are certainly orthodox members of the group. But Nick Nisely and Greg Jones are thoroughgoing revisionists fully supportive of the New Thing.

“At least then your critique would be consistent”…

Consistent, as opposed to hypocritical. No surprise–some people’s arrogance is just as misguided and counterproductive as their supposed history lessons.

There were plenty of “Vichys” who worked under the radar and behind the scenes for the Allies, not the Germans.

Covenant is a good blog, and worth checking out. No one is obligated to agree with everything that is said there.

I note that Stand Firm’s policy towards Covenant is now to either ignore Covenant or delete posts with links to Covenant outright, with the justification that they are “off-topic”. To Matt’s “Vichy” I say “Nuremburg.” Book-burners.

I have to say I’m shocked that Sarah Hey in particular has taken this stance, as she apparently has been the major agent of deletion. The comments that were deleted were 1) not that far off-topic (if at all) and 2) not offensive in the least even if they were. So why delete? I can only surmise that it has become the editorial policy of Stand Firm to attempt to freeze out Covenant altogether. I never thought I’d see Stand Firm so threatened and overtly hostile. Sarah and the others have always engaged and critiqued ideas on the merits. Outright suppression? Never thought I’d see it. To me it’s a very sad and unfortunate turn SF has taken. Not flattering at all.
