Of course. But they don't need these extracurricular reasons to be named infidels.

Full disclosure: I'm not an Episcopalian but, in the words of Bill Clinton, I feel your pain.

While I don't disagree with anything the gentleman said -- and his humility was extraordinary -- wouldn't the Sudanese Muslims be trying to kill and/or convert Christians regardless of what the Anglican church said or believed?

The Archbishop of Sudan speaks truth and truth always convicts us of our sin. He spoke to the press room, since the Anglican Communion News Bureau refused to schedule him. Cherie Wetzel reports that some of the reporters there who support TEC were laughing at him.

I was also moved by Cardinal Ivan Dias' remarks to Lambeth. His diagnosis of Anglicanism is perfect. Read it here:

Brad,
Amen and thank you. I too am convicted by the Holy Spirit through this. I'm reminded of the message following the first Plano Conference, that our church got to this place because we all, especially we orthodox, have failed God. We all need to heed this call for repentance.

Given my experience at General Convention 2006, the sense of frustration and (yes, I'll say it) boredom that seem to be coming through the communications from Lambeth surprize me not in the slightest. In Columbus, we sat around for days, listening to inane speakers talk about inane matters all the while being promised that the important issue facing the Church - THE WINDSOR REPORT - would get the attention and debate it deserved. After more than a week of stalling, our answer to Windsor was made through a hamstrung floor debate, a totally improper incursion by the newly elected PB into the affairs of the HOD and a last minute, cobbled together attempt to save ECUSA's bacon that coincidentally denied that we did anything wrong.

I predict that the same strategy is probably in the offing at Lambeth. Keep everybody talking about the adiaphora and hold off on the important questions until everyone is either tired or fed up or both. Hopefully with the leadership of wise and Godly men like Bishop MacPherson, the path forward will be somewhat less overgrown and easier to discern. Until that time, I am going to put my faith in God and in my Bishop.

I haven’t felt normal about the church since the first Trial Liturgy came on the scene. To some, among us, that, alone, has me “stuck on stupid.” So be it.

I really don't understand the cost thing. First, I realize that we're talking 600 bishops and their spouses for two weeks, but 8.8 million USD still seems an excessive cost. And I don't understand how 200 bishops of the global south paying their 7k USD would make more than a dent. That is only $1.4M, against a deficit of $4M, and surely had they attended it would have increased some costs over what they are already. Even then, this deficit would hardly be a burden to Trinity Church Wall Street, and I believe there is also a rather large trust fund in Utah. I can think of worse things those trustees could spend the money on, and I'm sure they have some in mind. Though at least in the past, Trinity Wall Street was not the easy mark that some in 815 would have liked. Of course, the type of old Wall Street Episcopalian who kept an eye on those things isn't much in evidence any more.

Brad,

+Bruce is certainly in my prayers, and I'll echo your call for prayers when next I post at my blog.

By the way, I'll bet our esteemed PB is pretty toasted right now as all of the elaborate efforts to highlight the poor and mistreated "Simple Country Bishop" seem to be getting a less than a stellar reception. Could it even be possible that some of the moderates in TEC's HoB are even getting a bit tired of this circus? I sense that many in the Communion outside the "liberal western provinces" certainly are. We can hope and take comfort in the knowledge that through God, all things are possible!

God's peace to you.
