Is 815 Going to Ask For Canons To Intervene in Conservative Dioceses Way Before They Leave?

From the Living Church:

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori made it clear Friday night that she will direct The Episcopal Church to move ahead to reconstitute the Diocese of San Joaquin and to establish control over church property swiftly. In addition, she said, she intends to begin the process of revising the denomination’s canons to allow it to deal more expeditiously with breakaway bishops.

“I expect to see revisions to the canons to deal with situations like the one that you have been living with in San Joaquin for several years,” she said.

It is the “for several years” part that has me mighty worried. So, women’s ordination becomes mandatory, as does non-celibate gay ordination as they are arguing about the Bishop of North Dakota, same sex unions become mandatory, etc.

Western Louisiana, it is time to pack our bags or surrender to the Borg…

815 Out and Out Ignores Remaining Faithful Member of Standing Committee Who Asked to Be Recognized Such at San Joaquin Convention Farce

Read it all. I am extremely proud of Fr. Rob Eaton for his stand.

The dumb part is that 815 will finance the “new” Diocese of San Joaquin for a few years until litigation resolves, then merge it into other Dioceses. Mark my words.

The Expected Spin From 815 On The Deposition Votes – Beers Says “Eligible to vote” means nothing

Read it all. Frankly, the Episcopal Church has lost all credibility in its democratic processes. This deal is rigged because they aren’t going to follow their own rules. Beers needs to go and the PB needs to get better legal advice.

Why All U.S. Presidential Nominees Should Be Episcopalian

Obama is now under fire for what his preacher said. While I won’t comment on any of that, particularly his defense that he wasn’t there when his preacher said the things he did, I will say this. There is a reason that so many U.S. Presidents have been Episcopalian. No matter what their preacher said in the pulpit, they could claim the ultimate unprovable and undisprovable defense – I was asleep during the sermon.

The Living Church Is Reporting That The Deposition Votes on Cox and Schofield Failed to Obtain The Canonically Required Majorities

Stand Firm has part of the story, and the Living Church website is linked here but is experiencing heavy traffic this Friday (I wonder why.)

For the record, I would agree with the Living Church’s interpretation of the canon. It states “Bishops eligible to vote”, not “bishops present.” The term “Bishops eligible to vote” is a term of art in the Episcopal Church’s Constitution and is used for determining whether a quorum is present.

Clearly, the House of Bishop’s action did not meeting canonical requirements, and the actions of TEC as treating Bishops Schofield and Cox as deposed is illegal.

The Presidng Bishop Makes A Move To Try Bishop Duncan Early

Read it all at Stand Firm.

Of course, the problem is that the three senior bishops of the House did not consent to his inhibition. Because of the wording of the canons, this is probably a fatal legal flaw in deposing him. But, the PB obviously now wants to try Duncan before, rather than after Lambeth, which was her previous strategy. The change in strategy is probably the result of the easy depositions of Cox and Schofield.

I am truly disgusted with the Episcopal Church.
