Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There has been a great deal of conversation over the past few years about whether or not those who wish to leave The Episcopal Church might “negotiate” with the Diocese of Central Florida to purchase church properties and affiliate with some other Province of the Anglican Communion. It is time to end these discussions. The simple answer is: No.

The Windsor Report and the several Communiques from the Primates of the Communion have said that the incursions by foreign Bishops and Archbishops are illegitimate. The Presiding Bishop has said that The Episcopal Church will not allow the purchase of any property by any group that seeks to affiliate with an offshore Province.

I will not permit the passage of any Resolution by the Diocesan Board, the Standing Committee or the Annual Convention of the Diocese of Central Florida that seeks to alter the accession clause in our Constitution to the Constitution and Canons of The Episcopal Church, or that seeks to transfer any property held by parishes in trust for the Diocese of Central Florida and The Episcopal Church.

If you must leave, for conscience sake, I will do all in my power to make your leaving amicable. But when you make the decision to leave you immediately cease being a member of The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Central Florida. You immediately cease having any say in decisions regarding any congregation of the Diocese or its property.

Please be aware of this in any plans you might be making.

Warmest regards in our Lord,

The Rt. Rev. John W. Howe
Episcopal Bishop of Central Florida

Random Monday Night Thoughts I Posted Over At StandFirm

I got on such a roll that the initial context just didn’t matter:

Moreover, would anyone really be surprised if TEC sued Fort Worth when they leave? Of course they will, as they will sue San Joaquin and Quincy? I mean, we’ve already heard this from David Booth Beers, Katharine Jefferts Shori, from the Executive Council, and GC2006 if you attended any Constitution and Canons Committee meetings. Heck, I couldn’t even get that committee to add the requirement of a trial for abandonment of communion where a denial of the same is filed by the respondent priest. Think about that, for a second; let that sink in. These folks aren’t all of a sudden resorting to Russian negotiation. That’s been the policy from day one. The sad part is, they have a really difficult time actually making good on threats – the first two fastballs always seem to get buy them. Don’t know why, but considering the “plan” that 815 had in place for the HOB meeting was non-existent, and that they actually based their response on the Windsor Bishops resolution after watering it down to the point where you couldn’t taste the water of life anymore, hey, they just aren’t that organized, and shame on us for still losing. It’s like we conservatives are like LSU was last Saturday against Tulane in the first quarter. What gives? They all have clay feet. We are just way too dumb to realize it.

I guess I needed to rant.
